Florian Gottschick

is a German film director, screenwriter and novelist. His works range from award-winning feature films to Netflix Originals and prime-time television drama.

His graduation feature Nachthelle Bright Night screened in competition at more than 70 international festivals, winning multiple awards and establishing him as one of Germany’s most distinctive new voices. He went on to direct Fucking Berlin – the adaptation of Sonia Rossi’s bestselling memoir – which was later listed among the “100 Best German Films”. The improvisational thriller Rest in Greece followed, premiering in competition at Filmfest Munich. In 2021, Florian created his first Netflix Original: the chamber drama Du Sie Er & Wir The Four of Us.

In television, he frequently directs acclaimed series such as Der König von Palma The King of Palma (RTL/RTL+), Dr. Ballouz (ZDF), Ein Fall für zwei A Case for Two (ZDF) and Großstadtrevier Precinct of Hamburg (NDR/ARD), where he also helmed the feature-length special Im Moment der Angst In the Moment of Fear, a prime-time ratings success. He is currently directing the new ARD drama series Die Notärztin The Emergency Doctor, while preparing both a feature film and another series for 2026 and 27.

As a novelist, Florian writes with the same cinematic intensity. His debut Henry (Penguin Random House, 2021) and his second novel Damals im Sommer Back Then in Summer (2023) both received wide acclaim and are in development for the screen. He is currently working on the sequel to Damals im Sommer.

Florian studied directing at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, Europe’s oldest film school, where his early short films (Zwillinge Twins, Artisten Artists, Herr Kio Mr. Kio) already gained international recognition. Today, he also works as a script consultant, develops projects for German broadcasters, and lectures at film universities.

He speaks German, English, French and Spanish, and lives between Berlin and Palma de Mallorca. In his spare time, he plays the French horn – entirely by ear – and dances Salsa and Bachata, perhaps because life in Spain makes it irresistible.
